Engine Cooling problem
1999 Mercury Mystique 4 cyl Automatic 180210 miles

My car need a new water pump and it overheats with in a 10 minute period of the car being on, But the temprature gage never goes pass the half way mark, how long can my car go before i need to get the water pump repaired? Or how long before my head gasket will blow?

if it's not going past halfway mark than it's not overheating...

engine can withstand temps of around 230F before it will start doing damage to head and block.
