Our vehicle was recently taken in for an alignment and replacement of one of the wheel bearings. About a week later it began making an odd noise upon accelaration. On the way home, it made a loud grinding noise, would not move and began leaking some kind of oil. Upon inspection it looked like it was coming from the front axle. A local mechanic said he could not repair it; he said it looked like the problem was the differential; and all gears seemed to be intact. My questions are: is it worth it to repair it: how long/difficult/ costly a repair is it; and how can we avoid the problem in the future. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
