I have a 1994 Grand Marquis, V8 with about 131,000 miles on it. I just bought the car from someone who said he had a friend put a transmission in but the car is leaking trans fluid. I had a friend look at it and at first sight all he thought it needed was a rear trans seal to correct the leak, but upon futher inspection the leak is coming from where the drive shaft meets the transmission at the seal. It has a lot of play in there causing the trans fluid to spew all over the exhaust which of course makes me a smoking gun down the street. he said it may be a bearing or something missing/ loose but he's not sure. My question is will this be a costly repair or something minor that can be done easy. He also mentioned that maybe the wrong drive shaft was put on the car causing it not to be sitting close enough into the transmission. Thanks for your help!!

Some of these trannys actually lubricate the shaft so if the bushing and seal are loose it will be sloppy and leak. Change it!
