1995 Mercury Marquis window will not go down

Starting this week, the driver side window was vibrating a lot and made a sort of thudding noise and went up and down with great difficulty; now it doesn't go up or down at all. Do I need a new window motor or a window regulator or what? Thanks.

the best thing to do first would be to remove the door panel of the faulty door window so you can get a better view of things. it is most likely the regulator and cable that are at fault here. if it is you would be able to tell pretty quick upon inspection.
