My Grand marquis started having the following problem:
Instrument panel ( analog panel ) illumination stopped working when the head light switch was in the auto/delay mode. I pulled the knob out and the lights began working intermittently. After two days the panel light stopped illuminating. I how notice that the digit clock is out and I have no Tail lights. The headlights are OK, The brake, backup, and turn signal lights are OK. The tail lights will not work in any position of the head light switch ( auto / manual). Could this be a grounding issue? I would like to believe the headlight switch is bad, but I cannot see a connection with the clock. I'm and electrical engineer and can trouble shoot if I have a schematic or wiring diagram.

I would say that you have a bad headlight switch. Terminals B2 and DN go to the digatal clock so the clock is tied into it.
