I own a 2000 Mercury Cougar, 5-speed Manual, V-6 2.5L, with 85,000 miles on it.
I have 4 problems:

First: Lately it has been vibrating/humming whenever I go above 20 mph. The noise always stops when I turn Right, and generally goes away when above 60 mph. I have heard various ideas that include CV-joint and wheel or ball bearings. Also, when turning slowly the steeringwheel will not turn smoothly but in more of a pulsating manor.

Second: When driving through stop and go traffic or around campus at slow speeda (to avoid the speed bumps) after frequent use of the clutch, when i release the clutch it makes a slight grinding noise, not like metal on metal but similar sort of sound I can usually relieve this noise by adding throttle but once it starts it will do it nearly every time i release the clutch until it has been shut off long enough to cool off.

Third: After running the car in the middle of the day when extremely hot or when starting and shutting it off several times within an hour or so or directly after running it, the car makes a clunk/clank noise just as it starts, not always but most often.

Fourth:
Was there any recall or know problem with the rear support member between the rear wheels? this is pretty much the only section of my car with rust on it (driven in MA during winter), and the local mechanic said that it would have to be replaced. Any idea what that will cost?

Thank you for your time and help!

Check with a ford dealership and they can take the vin number and check for recalls.
