1996 mercury cougar 4.6 v8 110000 miles. what problem might i have after p0401 code came up?

you have an egr flow probem, take off egr valve and clear the channel right to the throttle body, I use an old steel coathanger for this, if the channel is not plugged, check the egr valve and the erg position sensor.
