This is hard to describe... it sounds like a low-power dirtbike engine sputtering outside the car. The noise disappears during acceleration and during idle (which the engine takes a minute to fully switch to idle). When the engine heats up, the noise occurs less and the engine switches into idle faster, but a light on my dashboard clicks on showing a picture of my radiator with a fan in the middle of it. At a friend's suggestion, I had the mass airflow sensor replaced, but the problem still persists. Any ideas?

I believe that is the sign of a check engine light
service engine soon light
1st step should be checking it for codes
as that will help to pin point the troubled area
and give a better picture as on what is going on
most local shops and big chain store can help you in getting the codes
some do it for free check around in your area
good luck
let me know
