I gave my car to my sister. She said that it starting running hot and they changed the thermostat..not the problem. She does not have money to throw out the window, so I am trying to help her out. I never had any problems with the car when I owned it. Everything started once they took the car to PEPBOYS for a alternator replacement. Can you help out and tell us where we can look for issues or what we can do? (you have been a big help with my husband's truck issue...I appreciate your time)

First of all, is the car ACTUALLY running hot? If your temperature gauge is showing hot or fluxuating then turn your A/C on (if it is functioning correctly) and see if still blows out cool air. If the A/C is working then the car is not actually hot. It is most likely the temperature gauge sensor ( a $20 item). I have a 2000 cougar and mine went out ;) . If your A/C wasn't working prior to this , however, I don't have a suggestion other than the sensor.
