1995 Mercury Cougar water pump

Hello, I am sorry to hear about your husband. You and your family are in my prayers. Here is the info you requested. The belt comes off first before the tensionor. I have attached the directions, please feel free to get back with us if you don't understand.

BELT ROUTING Refer to the illustration for the drive belt routing. REPLACEMENT Rotate tensioner away from belt using a breaker bar installed in 1/2 inch square hole in tensioner arm. Lift old belt over alternator pulley flange and remove. When installing, position new belt over pulleys. Ensure all V-grooves make proper contact with pulley. Ensure belt is properly installed on each pulley.

i see the square hole, but i'm not sure what you mean by rotating it away from the belt. i've never seen anything quite like this. it looks like a flat plate, with a small pulley above it.

I GOT IT!!!!!!! Woooohoooooo!! the more i read ur answer, the more clear it got. I actually had the old pump out, and the new one in before my dad got here to help me!! boy am i proud of myself. test drove it earlier, put more water in. It's working fine, no leaks or anything!! THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!

One more quick note.........when you say "water" you do mean a 50/50 mix of antifreeze....right? Make sure you have the correct mix.....it is important on keeping it cool..... i did make sure it was mixed 50/50. i feal really good about it. i needed that boost. and it was actually really easy. the only hard part was that tensioner. now that i know how it works, it's easier than others i've helped with. again, thank you.
