1993 Mercury Cougar oil pressure

I drive a 93 mercury cougar 3.8. I have had low oil pressure, a tick in my motor, my check engine light is on, and when I start my car, thick white smoke shoots out the tailpipe. Is this a bad oil pump or just from me using cheap oil, I've been told both from different garages? Thank you
