1990 Mercury Cougar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a blown head gasket on my car and my dad is doing the repair, I want to know if it is recommended to have the head machined, how important it is and what Risk I am taking if i dont have it dont. after spending 350.00 already i dont want to dump any more money into it if i dont have to.

if the head gasket failed then there is a good chance that the head itself has been cracked and/or warped also. you will want to have the head tested at your local machine shop. they will do pressure tests on it to check for cracks and warpages and repair if needed.
