Has anyone else had this problem? I have read in a couple of Mazda posts that you must use the dealer belt due to a slight difference in size, but wanted to find out if anyone else had run into this issue. Mine is the normally aspirated 1.6L and The alternator belt is the one giving me problems. Thanks, Jere

I discovered that the ONLY belt that won't break is made by Gates. I tried Dayton belts but they only lasted about twenty miles before breaking, even with proper tension. I bought mine at the local NAPA store. By the way my car is a 93 XR2. Even though I haven't had anymore problems since changing belt brands, I still carry a spare belt and I made up a tool kit to keep in the car just for changing belts. After blowing through several of the Dayton belts I've gotten real good and fast at changing belts on the roadside.
