Engine Performance problem

The ARS and engine lights are both on. Sometimes, the ARS light is going off. When the ARS light is off, the car runs perfect. When it is on, you have to push on the accelorator twice as hard as normal. Right now it is intermidant. Sometimes the ARS is on, and sometimes it is not. However, the engine light is staying on all the time. Thanks in advance for any help.

The '95 SL500 has several relays located behind the carpet in the area behind the seats. It sounds like one or two of them are malfunctioning. I had a similar problem a few months ago. You will have to have the car check with a diagnostic code reader. The loss of power is a safety feature of the ASR system. It reduces the output of the engine whenever the car thinks it's losing traction.
