I have a e430 (2002) for several months now. What I have noticed is the temperature gauge will oscillate between 80-90 C while in traffic. The gauge is otherwise stable on the freeway. Does not appear to change much with revving of the engine (doubt water pump problem), or, with turning A/C on (?radiator cooling problem).
I took the car to the dealer x2 without any resolution. They showed me another e430, which did the same thing while parked.
So, either this is a "normal" thing for this car, or, what I'm thinking of lately, some sort of "cavitation" problem with the coolant. My brother has a BMW and when he cleared bubbles from the coolant system, his temperature problem resolved.
I guess if this problem is "normal", would it not decrease the life span of the car?
Any suggestions?
