Display on the dashboard

The outside temperature LCD display (ambient) and the LCD display that shows the gear numbers on my Mercedes Benz E320 2000, only show gibrish or garbage.One day it went out after slowly beciming erratic. Is the LCD display gone bad or the sensor. Is the a way to replace those displays which are situated at the side of the main speedometer and tachometer. Can you tell me what the problem is and what needs to be done. Thanks

The cluster LCD functions are notorious for going out on this vehicle. Unfortunately the only way to fix this is to replace the entire cluster unit. Usually about $1500.00
