I have a 1982 300D Turbo Diesel. I recently swapped the engine with another of same. There is a cable, I believe it's called a throttle cable, that goes from the linkage to somewhere on/near transmission I believe. It has a ball socket on one end with a rubber boot and on the other end is a plastic round cylinder with a plastic clip with a hole inside it. It's obvious where the end with the rubber boot goes on the linkage but where does the other end go?

congratulations on the engine swap, but you going to have fun with this cable, the cable is called the transmission throttle body pressure table, the reason it is hooked up to throttle linkage is because as you accelerate it raises the throttle body pressure of the transmission for shifting purposes, you will have to remove the transmission pan and you will see "plastic round cylinder with a plastic clip" where hooks onto the transmission, if you don't think you can handle the job, take it to a transmission place for transmission service, and asked them hook up the cable, they should do it at no charge, it's only a two minute operation
