1982 Other Mercedes Benz Models car wont start

car wont start sprayed starter fluid in carb car starts....i replaced fuel pump and regulator car wont start... disconnect fuel pump sprayed starter fluid in carb car starts.. what do i do next

Why is it when the fuel pump is connected the car wont start with spraying starter fluid in carb BUT when the fuel pump is disconnected the car will start spraying starter fluid
