1996 Mercedes Benz E300d Fan will only run at one speed

When I try to adjust the speed of the fan, the display will show the speed being adjusted, however the fan speed does not change, and continues to run only at the low speed.

Any suggestions or comments or where to look and test?

Check and test the blower motor control on rear of engine compartment.
