1997 Mercedes Benz C280 wont shift out of first gear

the car has always been perfect,,last time out i stopped normally and the abs light came on and service eng light also came ,,after that it will not shift out of first gear..if anyone can help i would appreciate it,,,another shop owner,,bob

There are a couple of things you can check. There is a plastic tube that run down to the drivers side of the trans. Make sure there are no breaks in the tube. This cause you car to upshift and it is triggered by vacum pressure. Also check the VSS. Which is also on the drivers sideof the trans. This linkage and shift linkage should be intact. Also check the code for exact problem. If you can.Good luck!
