2007 Mercedes Benz C230 Popping noise when stopped

I hear a popping sound that seems to becoming from the rear of the car. I do not hear it when I'm driving or when the car is in neutral. The only time I hear it is when I am stopped and the brakes are applied. Any idea? Thanks
