you need a scan tool to reset the check engine light. you can buy a cheap one at an auto parts store for about $30 or you can take it to a shop and they'll probably reset it for pretty cheap. if you havent corrected the problem thats causing the light to come on then it will probably come back after the reset.

Your battery needs to be registered with the computer and that can only be done with a professional scan tool so you will likely have to visit a well equipped shop to do that.
