Cruise Control is not working properly. When selected and activated, it feels as if it is about to engage and then it disengages immediately. Can you provide me information as to problem and what it will take to fix it. I'd also like to add that the vehicle has different size rims and tires on it, other than what the manufacturer recommends. Please help!

Hello
Thanks for the donation

If you have had the wheels and tires serviced then it is likely that one or more of your vehicle's wheel speed sensors has been damaged which will cause issues with the cruise control.

I would have to agree with blue lightning as MB vehicles are very sensitive to larger rims and tire sizes. This would be the place to start is by looking at the wheel sensor values with the MB Star diagnostic machine to determine if this is the issue. Your dealer should have a set of factory test tires that can be swapped onto the vehicle. This will allow the technician working on it to again test if the rims are the issue.

My wheels were not the issue, as they were installed at the MB Dealership. Although the wheels are larger in size, the tires are low profiles. Anyways ... here is the answer I received from the other site and this was the real issue:

There are only 3 parts that operate the cruise control, the switch at the steering wheel, the engine control module & the idle speed controller\cruise control actuator are one part!! since the you can advance the speed i would say that the steering wheel switch & the engine control module are in good working condition, i would suspect that the idle speed controller\cruise control actuator is the problem. this actuator is a common problem with this model\engine. I would have thought by now with this engines age\mileage that this part should have been replaced already, back when these cars were around the c\c actuator wire insulation would come apart letting bare wires touch each other. looking at these wires is something you can do yourself. the cruise control actuator sits under the intake manifold, has big thick black wire harness coming out of c\c actuator. let me know if you are interested in continuing with further diagnosis??? these c\c actuator were expensive but you can by rebuilt units. the proper way to troubleshoot would be to hook MB scan tool to car & run test on c\c actuator!! you may want spend a little money trouble shooting?? changing parts & guessing gets expensive!! I would love to help let me know what you would like to do from hear!! parts prices, disassemble?? let me know how i can help!! PS i drive a C class with 234k on it, love it, good luck!! one last thing check all the rear brake lights if brake light are out , c\c inop!!

I have notified an administrator of your refund request. We do apologize for not getting to your question sooner. We receive thousands of questions every day and we do our very best to answer the donated questions as soon as possible. The reason you got a quick response from another site is because that site REQUIRES a payment before getting a response, therefore there are many many less questions to be answered. 2CarPros only offers you the option of DONATING or NOT DONATING. We offer free service here so there are MANY questions being asked.. You don't get just one response here either so we would have continued troubleshooting until the problem was solved, unlike other sites that MAKE YOU PAY for ONE response.......................

Have a great day and thank you for using 2CarPros.com
