hissing noise

This is what I have done changed my pads on my car and although braking is okay probably a little better, i am getting a hissing noise from inside the car under or around the automatic gear stick after the brake pedal is pressed.
This only happens when the engine is running or just for a few pumps after the engine has stopped.

Sounds like your brake booster is leaking (vacuum).

You might pull the vacuum line to it and plug it off, see if the noise disappears, This will verify the booster is the issue or not.

If you do this test you will not have power brakes, I would not drive it on the road until you hook the line back to the booster!

Thank you for your reply I very much appreciate it, I have already replaced the brake booster but the hissing noise is still there what I do not understand is the hissing noise inside the car from around where the automatic gear lever is when the brake pedal is lightly pumped and stops when full down, I did not want to start taking all the carpet up inside the car just to get to the hissing noise if I could help it.

Before you start snatching your carpet out.

Maybe this would help you locate the sound

You said "or just for a few pumps after the engine has stopped."

This might be helpful, as with the engine running, it might be hard to hear it.

Can you get the vehicle up on to a LIFT/ JACK STANDS/ OR EVEN STRADDLE A DITCH (as I have a million times in my Jeeps!)?

Have your buddy crank it up, then turn it off. Crawl under near the gear shift lever. Have him actuate the brake pedal when you are in position.

You might have to do this process a few times to hopefully locate the source of the hiss.

Maybe the noise is underneath?

Insure your helper knows exactly what to do, no need in moving the car!

Hi thanks I've been under the car when the pedal was pumped, but the sound seems more louder inside the car, I was hoping it was just a temporary thing but there's probably a pipe or seal popped off the automatic gear stick ,I have searched for some information but most people who have this type of car don't have the automatic gearbox so probably it's not well known,

Hello,

It sounds like you may have a brake dust shield touching the brake rotor after you brake. Jack up the car and rotate the wheel to see if you hear the sound and then bend the plate away from the rotor.
