Lock nut key broke so I put a 15/16 socket on the McGard lock nut and hammered it on. The socket is stuck and I cannot get it off. How can I get it off short of a welders torch?

Hello,

Were you able to get the lug nut off? If so try putting back the lug nut several threads and gently tap and pull with a vice grip.

Let me know what you got.
Thank you.

Just to jump in on this, if that socket has a good hold on the locking lug nut, then I would sacrifice another half inch socket and weld it to this socket and then remove the hold thing with an air impact wrench.

The only other thing is to remove that socket by literally hammering it up and down to get it loose and then start over with another socket. I attached a picture below of where I am talking about.

However, When you go to hammer the new socket on there, do not hit the socket with the hammer. You need to put a block of wood between them so that you don't mushroom the socket.

Please let us know how this turns out. Thanks
