My B2200 went down in December 2003. I have not attempted to start it since January 2004. At the time I thought the starter had gone out. Now, I am wanting to get it back on the road but I don't know whether I've left it sitting up too long. Could the motor have frozen? Do I have to have the engine replaced? I want to do whatever mechanical work is required myself - I'm not a mechanic but I'm fairly competent. With a good manual of component descriptions with discussions of their workings I believe I could handle the task. I don't mean to imply the manual would make it a breeze only that the discussions, along with illustrations would put me light years ahead of where I am now.

HI
first i would check coolant,then airfilters for blockage mice? rodents? leaves.. then check ur motor oil color?.. some of these mite give u an idea whats happend or happening..

Do you mean I should replace the coolant - flush the radiator - and change the air and oil filters and the like before attempting to start it. I know will have to put in a new battery. I am going to buy the manual for this truck, I believe the publisher is Haynes? Thanks your response and suggestions.

You don't have to buy a new battery if it's been sitting for a year, just take it down to your local automotive shop or a friend with a battery charger and ask them to leave it on the charger overnight. The acid in the battery will cristalize over time and a good deep charging cycle will usually bring it right back. Check for a noticeable bulge in the side of the battery first though, cause that'll tell you if it's even worth trying. Secondly, you shouldn't have to do a flush-n-fill of all the fluids, but a change of oil and air filter wouldn't be a bad idea. It's a good bet on any vehicle that's been sitting for more then 2 months. take off the air cleaner cover and check for any signs of rodents(stuffing from cushions, seeds, droppings, exct...)if there aren't any, then it should be safe to fire up. If there are, then it's a good bet that they left presents. Take off the air-cleaner and shake it. If you hear rattling, take it to your local mechanic and have him clean it out. Also, check for holes in your air filter. If there is a hole, that usually means that they made their way into the engine, in which case starting the motor would be killing it. If there is a hole in the filter, have someone who knows about cars take a look at it. If they say it looks like they got in, then have someone tow it to a repair shop. DO NOT START IT!

Just purchased a Haynes manual on yesterday. Did not get to my pickup this past weekend... and time moves on.
