what exactly are you looking to know about it? which way is which? how it bolts on?

Yeah, all that AND how to get to it. Can I get it off from underneath the car?

Or do I have to drill down from the top by removing the exhaust manifold first?

Is the repair manual in question going to have this info?

no it wont tell you how to get to it or which way they go in.

they are very vague on exhaust system installation.

you can get at it from the bottom.

easiest if you have a lift or if you can block the vehicle up!

i have yet to see a online or book manual that has exhaust system information about installation.

Thank you for the heads up. I had a muffler guy quote me $400 for the replacement but I don't have that kind of dough to throw around at the present. The rebuilt after-market starters for these trucks are a problem, too. They tend to not start when hot after 2 or 3 years of use. I'm working on the 3rd starter. The 2200 starter had a ground wire soldered to the solenoid and I used that rebuilt starter until it failed also. Any new fixes for these rebuilt starters? I've a NAPA and 2 KRAGAN rebuilds fail as descrbed. I'm thinking maybe I should go the OEM route from the Dealer because at 73 getting under the car aint that much fun anymore. So the starter AND the front cat are my jobs to be done...

I'm swearing and cussing in my mind for ever buying this dog.

for the starter woes, i would go with a oem from the dealer and make them warenty it, so when it gets harder to start take it in and have them replace it again for free, the starters should last longer then that, but some maz's are famous for bad starters and you just have to deal.

with the cats. if you dont have emission testing forget about them. if you dnt like the noise, put on higher noise cancling mufflers for about 50 bucks and bypass the convertor. if you have o2 sensors after it all it will do is throw a code but wont affect engine performance.

Got the starter from the dealer but they are only selling REBUILTS by their guys in California. It's overall length is less than the one I'm replacing so it was easier to get in...And then I asked the guy at the Parts Counter about the front cat and asked for a picture of the installation if he had one. He did and I include that here for everybody to contemplate. Then I asked the price for the cat. $1037. Yeah, that's right! Over a $1000 for Fed or Cal. The Fed was a couple of bucks cheaper. And $38 for the two gaskets! I'm off to the junkyard to see if the cross reference can be to later model...one that was running with a good computer so the cat is still got some function left. Otherwise, I'm thinking two cats in series before the muffler ought to have the same effect.
