can't move shifter without pressing release button on column, but does not change indicator from Reverse. Still won't start or go into gear. Tried cranking wheel hard both ways. Tried disconnecting battery. no change.

The cable ring was off the pin on transmission shifter. I put it back on and it will go into Park now.

However the ring is very loose like something is missing and will probably not stay on. Is there a retainer clip or what holds it on?

There is a lever with a pin sticking out on the transaxel and the cable from the column shifter has a ring on the end which slips over the pin. It is a very loose fit and the pin has a small groove around it like it might hold a retainer clip or something else to keep the shifter cable from slipping off the pin on the shifter lever on the transaxel again. Is it a special part? Part number? etc.

Cable end should look like lower pic. No part cable assembly need to be replaced.
