I don't know how this happened my problem is different but I'll try to answer your Q. 1. Checking fuses and relays 2. check compression if it's OK and there is no spark, check crank sensor if OK, change ing module under the coil pack.

This guide can help

Please run down this guide and report back.

mabele87 Sorry I have two Mazda's the Miata and the rx8 and when answering your question I was thinking or the Miata. But your right and I had the completely wrong engine. I did have the same flooding problem and when it happens you have to dry it out as you did or just hold partial throttle and crank for ever to clear it out and you might run the battery down in the process. If you hold full throttle it won't do any thing but add more fuel. I can't remember what else it sets in the computer but with full throttle it won't cleare the problem.

Hello, My son bought this car last year and in the last 2 weeks he has trouble starting this car. It sat almost all winter but we did finally get it started put a new battery in and now a week later it will turn over but will not fire. Any suggestions? Have seen there are recalls on this car, but not sure if that is related or how to go about that process. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dave Kiefer

I checked for recalls on your car. there are 4.
1- passenger side airbag.
2- exhaust heat insulator
3-engine cooling
4- Front control arm abd lower ball joints
I also checked for TSBs, and there are several. The one that caught my eye was on "no starts".
You may want to check with your closest dealer on these. Hope this helps.

Pulled it into the shop to do a clutch change. Started it up one day after work and let it run for twenty minutes then I shut it down. I came back two days later to see that my father-in-law had put it up on blocks so that we could work underneath, I try to start it and it just made an electrical noise. not the normal noise a car makes when it tries to start. I just figured maybe it was some sort of a sensor from being up on the blocks off the ground to prevent it from running. I got the clutch change and everything looks good, I put it all back together and tighten everything at the specified torque. then I tried to start it again and it did the same thing. it will not make the noise that a car makes when it is trying to start but the belt turns, more like just the electrical is going. everything in the engine was brand new before I parked it, coils, plugs, battery, wires. I thought it was the starter so I replace the starter and it does the same thing. please help me. I cannot even find anyone online with the same problem. all the lights that usually come on, come on when trying to start. it just does not make the regular starting noise. it has spark.

Engine Mechanical problem
2004 Mazda RX8 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual
25708

My Mazda RX8 will not start, it ran fine yesterday, but today it will not start. It turns over, but sounds different, like no compression or spark. I have heard of engine failures to this model year, but don't know the symptoms. does anybody have any ideas?

Hi Cobraman_114,

Thank you for the donation.

A TSB was issued for non starting, lack of power and/or presence of trouble codes, ( P2107, P2108, P2402, P0420). For such cases, the PCM has to be reflashed and this can only be done at the dealer.

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may experience the following concerns:
• Engine fails to start (cranks but no start) at cold engine temperature. This is caused by
flooded spark plugs due to slightly rich air/fuel ratio for cold starting.
• Engine is hard to start after short distance drive without engine reaching normal operating temperature at cold ambient temperature. This is caused by lower engine compression due to seals icing by moisture inside engine.
• Engine has lack of acceleration power and / or knocking when driving at more than approx. 6000 RPM or at high altitudes. This is caused by poor combustion gas sealing due to the lack of amount of oil supplied from the metering oil pump.
• MIL illuminates with DTC P2107/2108 stored in memory. This is caused by sub CPU - main CPU communication error after jumpstarting the engine due to dead battery.
• MIL illuminates with DTC P2402 stored in memory. This is caused by improper threshold setting for DMTL motor electric current tolerance.
• MIL illuminates with DTC P0420 stored in memory. This is caused by improper threshold setting for rear O2 sensor output tolerance.

So I could not figure out the problem by myself. So i just took the RX-8 up to mazda and they said the the spark plugs were shot and it caused the car to flood. Also the air filter was to dirty, which it did not look that dirty to me. Also the last thing that the car did not have any of the recalls for the computer update. So after they did all that the car is running better then when I bought it. But I also I am still getting rid of it because it burns to much oil for my blood and just all the other corks with it.

Anyway so if you have a problem for your rx-8 starting then it could be possibly these problems.

Thank you for the input.

Guess I jumped the gun by going too far ahead when the basics were overlooked.

The engine for this vehicle works great but its lifespan is something Mazda is unable to provide longevity.

Cranks but no start condition-do below:

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine at least 3/16 away from ground -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it.

Sorry for the delay and I hope I understand you correctly.

Only front 2 injectors would be working at idle. 2 rear would work only after 5000 rom and the other 2 after 6250 rpm.

If I leave my vehicle for 2+ days, for example over the weekend, when I go to start it, it really struggles. The last time I left it for 3 days without driving it. On 1st & 2nd attempt of starting all I got was the sound of relays clicking. Each attempt after that it improved turning over until eventually starting on the 7th attempt. I drive to work and back in it during the week(25 miles e/w) and never have this problem during the week. All throughout the week it fires up first time. It's only on Monday morning when I go to start it that this happens after not driving it on the weekend. I always shut down the car properly as advertised for this car and have had the battery replaced in the last year.

1.Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2.Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3.Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
4.Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5.Restricted air intake system.

I have recently replaced the clutch pedal due to the manufacturers defect of the support bracket snapping at the weld points. The new pedal is in and seems to be working properly. The battery had drained while sitting for a week and 1/2 while waiting for new pedal to be delivered. The battery is fully charged however i am not getting any turn over when trying to start the car. I am thinking this is due to an adjustment issue with the pin that compress the Hydraulic clutch. Am i in the right ballpark or do i need to be concerned about alternator or a starter issue. The car was performing perfectly before the pedal issue. thank you for your assistance.

My rx8 231 2004 59300 miles on clock broke down due to mis Fire chamber 1 according to the code its p0301 it would not start and felt like a spark plug or lead may be down when recovery came restarted car and it made a loud noise when revving and a loud slapping noise then would not Rev above 1000rmp with foot to the floor on excellerator ? When put put gear not change but car just stalls if you take foot off pedel or try to move . When checking spark plugs day after recovery one of the leading plugs had loads of rust on the end which sticks out of the block but totally confused what to do as I cannot move the car even to a garage to have it looked at ?
Any help would be appreciated

This is a misfire code No1 cylinder, start with a compression test and let me know what the readings are, do a wet and dry test, a wet test is with a small amount of oil in the cylinder, advise reading for both tests for further assistance.

Thanks for the reply however the car will not Rev above 1000 rpm and feels like there is a blockage in the car and strange noises like a slapping sound coming from that area .
My plan is to see if the cat has broke as I believe the miss fire could of blown the cat leading to the issues what do you think ad I will struggle to get a compression test as I can't move the car any suggestions

You can unbolt the cat and see if the engine will rev out, if so replace the cat and then address the misfire.
