Hello there! I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that the weather is getting colder up her but I hear a shreaking loud noise right after I turn the engine on. The noise goes away and reappears later, the only thing that makes it go away is if I press the gas pedal, then it screams again and fades off. I drive a 1999 Mazda Protegé LX. It's all original (70 000 miles) except for new brakes & muffler. What's wrong? Thanks a million!

kind of depends on you. i've replaced the one on my 99 explorer. it rusted out and i lost most of the antifreeze. had it done at local repair shop for $220; includes labor for getting into engine. if you don't replace it you may end up needing a new engine.

I am having the same problem on my 2003 Mazda Protege after having the two belts replaced. Why only after having those replaced does that start?

:( It turned out to be that the belts were to loose, go figure.
