My car i just purchases a couple months ago used. I have come to find out that my heat works but does not get that hot. I was going to remove the thermostat and test it first. Ive also heard it could be the heater core but i have no problem with a leak in the area specified. Should i check that thermostat first?

With the engine at full operating temp, locate the 2 heater hoses where they go into the firewall and feel them to see if they are both hot to the touch. This guide can help us fix it

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-heater-not-working

The temperature is controlled by the use of an air mix door that is operated by an electric motor/actuator. This door can be jammed or the actuator can be inoperative or have stripped plastic gears internally.

WIth the engine hot, running, and the heater on, feel both heater core hoses. If both are hot, check / repair the blend air door. If only one is hot, flush the heater core.

Is the engine warming up to a normal operating temp? Have you checked to see if both heater core hoses are getting hot? If they are, have you checked the blend air door?

If the hoses are hot and the blend air door is working, you should get heat. Are you sure they are hot and not just warm? Does the engine warm up to a normal operating temp?

There is no fuse for the actual heat. It is produced by the engine heating the coolant and then circulating it through the heater core. After that, the only thing that will stop heat (if everything is heating normally) is the blend air door.

No, the heater core is like a small radiator that gets hot with coolant in it. If both hoses are getting hot, then you have circulation through it.

Check coolant level Is the car reaching operating temp Check heater core hoses if both are hot ,if both hoses hot and not enough heat inside suspect blend door actuator if not one hose hot and the other warm or cold the heater core need to be flushed (very common)

The 2 hoses are right at the firewall yes?
Wouldnt the car have to be elevated to reach these hoses?? I ask because it seems darn near impossible to get to these hoses on my 1995 protege..

I would not disconnect the hoses from the firewall side and the heater core

but from the engine side leaving the hoses connected to the heater core
trying to remove them hoses from the heater core may cause damage to the heater core
