Hi--

I replaced the blower fan resistor module in my 2003 Protege because the fan would only work on high speed. All the speeds worked for about two days then quit again. What should I try next?

Thanks!

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

Inspect your blower motor relay, located behind right end of dash. If it is going bad it will only allow the fan to work on high setting, not being able to resist currents for the other settings. You can swap it out with another similar relay to see if it helps. Post results and I will follow up.

Bluelighten6:

When you say check the blower motor relay isn't that the same thing--just a different name--as the blower motor resistor module? That's what I replaced when the fan would only work on high speed. Then after two days iof working properly the new one quit and again the fan only blows on high speed.

No...the relay is sort of like a fuse.

The problem was a bad blower motor was screwing up the resistor. The motor looked a bit burned with a few pieces of fried and dried leaves in the wheel. I replaced the motor and resister and it now works great.
