For a while now there have been screeching noises coming from one of my pulleys and eventually has caused many belts to break that connect the water pump to the alternator and harmonic balancer. After having a mechanic check it out I was told that the water pump was the problem and was seizing up. Rather than pay the 550 he wanted to charge me I am replacing myself. My problem is I can't seem to remove the bottom half of the timing belt shield and wanted to know if I needed to remove the balancer to get it completely off or if there is an easier way to reach the two bolts that the shield is blocking.

Hi there,

you will need to remove the harmonic balancer to access these bolts and remove the cover.
