Hello, I have a 1999 Mazda Protege and lately my car has been telling me it is overheating. However, my mechanic told me to pop the hood and check to see if there is any leaking, smoke, smell. I have not seen anything, everything looks fine and my coolant is fine as well. Also, my check engine light came on today too. Does anybody have any idea what this is.

Thank you in advance

God Bless

Hi there,

Your mechanic should be doing some very basic checks for you, such as a cooling system pressure test, check that the thermostat is working, and the fans are working, you will also now need a scan to check the code indicated by the check light, may be it's time to find a mechanic who wants to help you out.

Hi there, my mechanic is unfortunately in another state and he had to walk me through the steps. I just moved to VA for school and I don't really have a personal mechanic.

The reason I am asking is because I am getting on the road tomorrow for 6 hours to visit family for Thanksgiving and I wanted to know if anyone thought these things might pose a problem for me while driving.

Hi there, these tests will only take a mechanic a few minuets to do, you do need some equipment so it's not something that you can do easily your self, i would ask about and find a mechanic that can assist you, if you don't get this check you may run the risk of doing some damage to the engine.

Do you know of any mechanics who can check my car for free or very little money. I don't get paid until Friday and I am just upset that this happened the day before I was leaving.
