1997 Mazda Protege Rough Idle

yes if you sprayed it you could have damaged it. have you checked your idle air control valve and fuel pressure?

ok i took it too a mechanic today and he adjusted the timing. now the problem does not happened when i have the a/c off. but if i turn the a/c on and leave it on, it has bad idle and feels like turning off like before

take a look at your idle air control valve, that is supposed to adjust when u turn the a.c on because your idle goes up.

ok the check engine light came on and i took it to autozone where they scanned and got the code. there are two codes that came up. p0100 and p0505

also i would like to thank you for the help you have been giving me. i have another question. if there is oil on the maf and air filter whats does the mean. i have heard different things and would like to know what you think it could be

exactly, this is where everything comes full circle. p0100 is maf sensor malfunction.(hence oil on the sensor). p0505 is idle air control valve, just like i mentioned for the idle and car shutting off. now, the oil on your sensor is probably because you have a clogged pcv valve or egr tube, I would go with the pcv because its cheaper and more of a chance that this is the problem. so the bad idle is your idle air control valve. also your probably gonna have to replace the MAF too because of the oil. but im bettng that the oil is because of a clogged pcv valve. so those three things should clear you right up. idle valve,pcv, maf . in that order. but you must get all three. If your handy, you can change all of it yourself. its pretty self explainatory

thanks you covered everything .everything is fine now. i changed my pcv valve, now there is no oil on the maf. i also changed the iac and cleaned the maf and it back to normal


i have another question, now my car is overheating at times.so i went to check my radiator fan and it is not turning on unless i have the a/c on. what could be the problem?

also does it take some time for the radiator fan to turn on? or does it turn on instantly when you turn the car on?

no it doesnt immediately turn on, it will turn on once your car gets to a certain temp "hot". also it should come on when you turn on your a/c. also If you do have a problem with overheating then your engine coolant temperature sensor is the culprit. but don't be alarmed if your gage gets up there, when you should worry is when it starts to hit that red area. anymore questions just stay in touch, also if you need to order any parts, we are very good with prices, just click on the link down by my name screen name and click on discount autoparts in the site menu
