1994 Mazda Protege 4 cyl Automatic 152000 miles

I have a 1994 mazda protege and the engine has a really loud knocking sound.
I was told by one person that it was the cylinder but told by another person that it was most likely a bad valve because when the car is running you can pull any spark plug out and the knocking doesn't stop.
I really want to find out what this knocking sound is?

Hi there,

i would be thinking more a bearing issue, if the noise is constant with engine speed it will be a main bearing if not a rod end, i would have the sump of and be checking this out.
