1993 Mazda Protege engine vibration problem

Hi, just a quick question, iv got a 1993 Mazda Protege and im having a problem with the engine im guessing it is, as soon as i start it it vibrates non-stop then when i put it in drive or reverse it vibrates even more, getting to be quite a pain really, just wondering if someone could tell me if there is a way to fix this or not.

Also 1 more thing, the speedometer is making this strange noise, it only does it in the winter which is weird, once i maintain a constant speed the noise begins and once iv completly stoped the noise stops, is there a fix for this or should i just buy a new one?

any help would be much appreciated thanks!

Does the car run rough? The vibration could be because the car is not firing on all cylinders. Try to explain it in more detail.

heythanks for replying, the car runs pretty well it's just the Vibration coming from the engine, liek when you start it it starts to vibrate a little then when i shift into reverse it's the worst then drive is a bit better than reverse but when in Neutral it's calm. i spoke to someone about it and they said i should replace the sparkplugs but i dont see how that would resolve my problem?:s.

however i found something to quite odd, when i press the AC button it seems to calm the engine down a bit more when i turn it off the vibration comes back, i dont think it's good for the car but let me know and it would be appreciated

It could be that one of your engine mounts has broken or they may need replaced. If the engine itself runs smooth, you shouldn't have to mess with the spark plugs. When you turn the A/C on, the compressor kicks in which makes your accessoris spin slower which could reduce some vibrations.

Well its more than likely that the front engine mount might be worn out on your engine. This is the one closet to the rad in the middle of the car mounted to the transmission. You should have it checked to see if the rubber has seperated from the metal housing.

Also a thing worth mentioning is having a compression test done on your motor. Those engines were very bad for burning exhaust valves which would cause a heavy vibration through the car (worse in drive or reverse at a stop with you foot on the brake). Make sure they do dry and wet compression tests when it is done. A compression test might tell you if the car is even worth fixing for a very small amount fo money.

that's exactly what the car is doing, so i think it would be a good idea to have that compression test done sometime soon :idea:
