My car wouldn't start this morning. The two truck driver tapped on the pedal three times and then it revved to life. He explained it may be a fuel filter/injector problem or may even need a fuel pump. I took it straight to the mechanic and he said my car needs a tune-up and he will clean the injectors but if that doesn't fix the problem, I will most likely need a new fuel pump and filter (he explained that for Mazda's, the filter and pump are one piece so he can't just replace the filter). Does this sound correct? Should I get a second opinion?

Thats pretty low mileage for needing a fuel pump. Tapping on the pedal does nothing for a fuel injected car, but let air into the engine, which means it could have been rich for lack of spark or too much fuel. I think I would get another opinion.Have the PCM scanned, fuel pressure tested.
