I was wondering if there is a special trick to removing the alternator for this vehicle. I can't seem to find out how. The lower mounting bolt is approx 4" long. The problem is that the space needed to remove it, is only 3" long. Can you help?

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fresh air duct and radiator upper bracket. If equipped, remove the condenser fan. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. Loosen the belt tensioner locknut and tension adjusting bolt. Remove the alternator upper mounting bolt. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the right splash shield. Remove the drive belt from the alternator pulley. If necessary, remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts and support the compressor aside, leaving the refrigerant lines connected. Remove the alternator through-bolt and the alternator.

To install: Position the alternator and install the through-bolt. Tighten the alternator through-bolt to 24-3 ft. lbs. (2-46 Nm) on the 1.8L, and to 8 ft. lbs. (51 Nm) on the 2.5L engine. If removed, install the mounting bolts and tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts to 26 ft. lbs. (5 Nm). Install the right splash shield, and lower the vehicle. Install the drive belt and adjust the tension. Install the alternator upper mounting bolt and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Tighten the belt tensioner locknut and tension adjusting bolt. Connect the electrical connectors from the alternator. If removed, install the condenser fan. Install the radiator upper bracket and fresh air duct. Connect the negative battery cable.
