If the coolant temp sensor don't fix it then get back to me and I will walk you though a couple of tests. You will need a digital multi meter for some of the tests.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. I checked the coolant sensor and got 2.64 ohms at 20k r cold(ambient) engine. Got .64 ohms after running engine 5 minutes, I am guessing that sensor is good? I unplugged the connector and read across the two terminals of the sensor. Also 2 check engine codes, from Autozone, P0420 catalyst efficiency monitor malfunction bank 1.....001ehaust leak....002 check other codes....003faulty cat converter-there are 2 on this vehicle, does not specify which one. Other code is P1335.

Ok P0420 is bank one cat or O2 sensor problem. Now bank 1 is the bank that number one cylinder is on which will be the right or passanger side of the engine in this case. I do not show a P1335

I t looks like I will have to bring it to the dealer so their scanner can determine the exact problem, would that be the case here?

Ok when you tested the temp sensor what was the air temp at the time of the test? As for taking it to the dealer thats up to you. We can run some test on the O2 sensor if you like just let me know and I will get the test procedure and take it from there.

temperature was 72 outside, read 2.62 on coolant sensor. Will a bad 02 sensor cause the vehicle to not restart after driving and it sits for an hour? The engine will crank but not start. I have to turn key to off, fully depress accel. and then it will start. Vehicle will start after sitting for 5-15 minutes with no problems, also, starts every morning no problems.

OK coolant sensor probably isn't the problem. It is off but only by 10 degree's so I don't think this will cause your problem. Now I would like to test the TPS. What you will do is check resistance between term C and D. Now you will also need a feeler guage. With .006 you should have continuity between those terms. Now with .020 you shouldn't have continuity. let me know what you find. Here is a pic so you know which term is which.

Resistance on term. c&d .006 = 3.38, .020=3.32 on 20k scale. On term a&b .006=0, .020= open.

Ok if you would ohm the air charge temp sensor in the intake or upper plenum and get back to with the temp at the time (do this when the engine is cold) and ohm reading. Thanks.

Ok that sensor is out of range but not enough to bother with. Now back to the codes on hand. P0420 is the bank one O2 sensor or exhaust leak have you done anything with that yet? Now if you would take it back to a one of you local parts stores that does a free scan and scan it again and write down the codes and then have them cleared and get back to me with what codes are still there so we can see what to do next. I am thinking that we need to test the tps and the cam sensor. Get back to so we get this figured out. Thanks.
