1997 Mazda MPV What does code p1345 mean?

We actually asked a question yesterday but have a new one today! Our MPV is the one that lost compression mid-freeway and then died when we made it to an exit, with smoke coming out of the hood. We are not sure of the exact color of smoke (it may have been more grayish or whiteish than black, didn't look like any kind of fire had happened upon inspection under the hood). Today we found the radiator reservoir empty and diagnostic code of p1345. Oil is still full. Any ideas? What does that code actually mean and could it be related to the empty radiator at all? Thanks for your help.

The P1345 code is for crankshaft/camshaft position correlation.
This means that the cam is not where it is supposed to be in reference to the crank. It could be the cam position sensor, the crank position sensor , the gear on the distributor or the timing chain/belt.

If cam sensor goes bad you will normally have a no start situation or very poor performance with erratic gauges.

If you have faulty crank position sensor, the symptoms are usually no start, engine dies after driving a short distance, won't start when hot after shut off.

I suggest you check your timing belt and other belts to ensure they are nice and tight and are not worn.

For the coolant loss, check the water pump that is driven by the drive belt and see if there are signs of leaks there. Also check around radiator, hoses and resevior to look for any cracks or signs of leaks.
