1994 Mazda MPV engine rotates but will not start

Hello dkson NO FUEL, NO SPARK or NO COMPRESSION will cause that problem. Check inertia switch ,here is the location:

This switch shuts off the fuel pump in the event of a collision. Once the switch has been tripped, it must be reset manually in order to start the engine. If you have not been in accident check it anyway, can't trust those things.. Remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body, push the throttle open and spray a small amount of aerosol starting fluid into the engine. Crank the engine. IF it has spark and compression but NO FUEL, it will start and run a few seconds before dying. If it does NOT start, it probably has NO SPARK Place the open end of the plug wire near a metal surface on the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch for a spark If you see a spark, the problem is not spark, but most likely NO FUEL or NO COMPRESSION. If you do not see a spark, the problem is in the IGNITION CIRCUIT. Do all those tests and get back ,we need to find which way to go to solve the problem.

I am researching this same problem. Are you quite certain there is an inertia switch on the 1994 Mazda MPV 2WD? If so, could you post a different picture of its location that includes some identifiable features?

I've pulled up all the carpet under the dash and on the floor of the front passenger seat, and I cannot fund any such kind of thing. Under the kickplate there is a great big bright silver electronic module which I believe is the fuel pump relay, and a bunch of adjacent components, wires, and circuits, but nothing that looks even remotely like an inertia switch with a big, unmistakable red button.

Did anyone have an outcome on this post? Having the same issue and unable to find the magical switch. Did anyone else ever find it? That diagram is great but idk where or what the transmission hump is?

The person never informed us if the problem was resolved. As far as the inertia switch is concerned, you can locate it under the dash on the right side of the transmission hump. The hump is centered in the vehicle floor raised so that a drive shaft and transmission will fit under the vehicle.

In this case, you will need to pull back the carpet to the right center of the vehicle. That will be on the passenger side.
