I bought a *lemon* about 4 months ago :( . It runs GREAT...when it runs! But, since about 3 weeks after I got it...the Service engine light came on to stay, and with a FULL tank of gas...it just *ran out of gas* like stalled at a speed of approx 35 - 40 mph, and would not restart! It also goes through gas like water...approx. 73 mile per TANK (4 cyl. 2.6)! And, it is very difficult to start first time for the day...but, once it starts, it starts FINE every time...until it has *rested* for 8+ hours. And, it does NOT *like* stop lights, drive through window service, or any type of slow *idling* type traffic...it spits and sputters until I get it up to 30+ MPH.
I put it on the diagnostic, and it returned that 5 sensors were malfunctioning...ie; 09-Water thermosensor, 11-intake air thermosensor, 12-throttle sensor, 14-atmospheric pressure sensor, and the 08-Mass Airflow sensor which I HAVE replaced since the diagnostic (with NOT much resolution). I have also replaced plugs, wires, rotor, cap, AND distributor (again with NOT much resolution). But, it still uses gas and still *run out of gas* stalls with plenty of gas in the tank. I have used injector cleaner in the gas tank several times.
Despite it's *problems*...I LOVE this van! The body is solid, the interior like new (except for fading over 16 years), and it handles like a dream...WHEN it runs! So, I have decided to replace ALL 5 sensors for my own piece of mind. But, someone told me that the problem *could* be in the Fuel pump and/or the throttle body???
What is your suggestion on this??? COULD it BE the fuel pump AND/OR the throttle body? Is the fuel pump (in the tank) difficult to get to? And, is it expensive to replace either part...I have my *own* mechanic (son), I just want a *second* opinion? :?
Your help is greatly appreciated! :D
