My Miata has been stalling and the check engine light has been coming on. Its like it is running on two cylinders. This started on day after going to carwash. I would give codes but cannot find OBD2 connection underdash. Once RPMs are up a little the other one or two cylinders kick in and the car runs fine. The check engine lights blinks sometimes, somtimes stays on and sometimes goes off. It is on now.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation.

According to my data base, the data link should be under the left hand side of the instrument panel, have a look and if you get the codes post them here for more information.

I reset the codes last night and my Daughter drove into school and home, about twenty miles. The codes did not happen again. I wonder if I am getting something wet that should not be getting wet?

I apologize for not following up but I have started getting the above mentioned codes again without any water present. Its like the car is trying to flood or that it is only running on two cylinders for a couple of minutes.

I made a donation and provided codes for the problem I am having with the Miata. Why did I not get a reply? Have I made an error? With whom should I contact for a reply?

Check for water contamination at the plugs/coils/wires.The cat efficiency code is most likely due to a bad cat converter. Sorry for the delay

I am sorry but someone filed your email and I just found it. Mike is probably going to get ahold of you on this and i want to apologize for that. What do you do with a bad cat converter and why did it just start when the car started flooding?

When a cat goes bad it must be replaced. When your engien was misfiring it was dumping raw fuel into the cat which can melt the honeycomb interior and cause the reactive material to melt the inside of the cat

They arent very cheap, and I do suggest that you go with an OEM part. The aftermarket ones are less expensive, but they dont perform as well or last as long
