1991 Mazda b2200 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

My fuel gauge doe not function. I turn on the ignition and the fuel gauge needle does not move. It remain at the point below empty mark. Even when I fill the tank to maximum, the fuel gauge needle does not move at all.

Please advice me if the problem is within "Do it yourself" category so that I can fix it myself or refer to a qualified mechanic if possible.

i had the same problem with my truck. My B2200 is fuel injected, so it my be different as i have an electric fuel pump, but what had happened was the ground wire that attaches to the actual float of the gauge had fallen off due to all the movement it's gone through in its life. As far as fixing it yourself, it is possible, but no fun. You'll have to:
-disconnect the filler tube from the body
-release the tank from the truck and set it on the floor (do this when the tank is near empty)
-pull out the fuel sending unit/fuel level reader from the top of the tank (be careful of sparks that will ignite the gas)
-you will probably find a loose wire hanging from the assembly, this need to be soldered back onto it's terminal (near the float)
-reassemble the tank and reinstall
Do this as soon as possible, because before i fixed mine, my trucked died on the road twice as a reult of this problem (it kept blowing fuses)
