Mazda 626 1990 Fuel Guage Not Working

My partner and I recently purchased a 1990 mazda 626 7 seater wagon that has done 200,000kms. She is a fantastic car in great condition, but as with all older cars needs tlc.. The fuel guage was working fine for a few days then it stopped registering anything followed by a brief period of it working again and now nothing.. We have tried to find the sender to no avail, we believe it is on top of the fuel tank but not sure how to get to it. Is there a process of elimination to go through, do we have to drop the fuel tank??? Does anyone have any advice?

YES YOU DO HAVE TO DROP THE TANK DOWN TOGET TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT.

I thought that there was an inspection port under the rear seat for those cars.....I might be wrong though as I have never heard of a 7 seater 626 in Canada

You are right we recently purchased a manual and it is under the rear seat.

No problem....I think you can still purchase the fuel sending unit and float for those pumps....its should just be held on by two 8mm (5/16") nuts and a single wire that pumgs into the rest of the sending unit/fuel pump.

Or if you have the manual there might be a test for inducing a resistance to teh fuel guage to make sure its not the fuel guage on the dash that is not working.

Me too.....had to cook an 18lb turkey yesterday and hosted dinner for 15 lastnight....downed (we all did) 8 bottles of wine, 1 bottle of rye, one bottle vodka, and one bottle of baileys (for the coffee).

I am happy to be going back to work tomorrow.....although. I have a 2007 MazdaSpeed6 that won't idle properly, have been working on it for 2 days and neither myself, Mazda Canada or Mazda USA can seem to find out why.

So its a catch22 wrok or family hmmmm

Uhuh.. We did bout the same size turkey for christmas day but did the smart thing and went to friends place with it.. Then boxing day (yesterday) we went to my partners parents with all the brothers and sisters and kids and my family and all the dogs,34 in total (12 furry ones) it rained all day otherwise it would have been the beach, champagne and beer flowing from 10am non stop. Highlight of the day watching 4 men standing in the rain trying to figure out how to put up a portable car port... Good luck with your Mazda frustrating when not even the company can shed any light...

Go for the family time, the car won't go anywhere in a hurry..
