engine running hot

Mazda 626, 1996, 102,000 miles, 4 cylinder
I have had my daughters car to the repair shop 4 times now for overheating related problems.
1st The belt broke and the waterpump was replaced along with thermostat.
2nd The belt broke again and this was replaced.
3rd The thermostat was replaced again.
4th The belt broke again and this again was replaced along with pulleys.
The machanic does not know why it is overheating and belts are breaking.
It still is overheating. What happens is: it starts out ok and then after some time the temp gage goes hot (not to red) and then comes back down. this hapeen continually and sometimes does reach red before coming back down.

Can you give me some advice?

Waterpump is seizing, when it gets hot. We had one of these last year and it ended up smoking the motor.

Monday I can check to verify it. Maybe it was the alternater that was seizing? Almost positve the waterpump though. When the car was towed in it had cooled and released.

Hey Paul , I'll leave this one for you-this overheating thing is getting real old for me. Something tells me you have nailed this one-Y pulley and belt problems-BTDT also with AC compressor

We had the same car in our shop with this exact problem, but the customer was a DR. that just thought he could keep driving it when it overheated :roll:


RAZ, The hell of it is I have things I have to get to, but just can't push away :x

This sounds familiar....I had a 626 with an aftermarket pump. The impellar slid down the shaft and made contact with the block causing the shaft to spin on the impellar and also threw belts.

Okay, it was a 99 636 with a 2.0

The alternater was what seized and was snapping the belts.
