1993 Mazda 626 w/2.0l 4 cyl. & manuel transmission. 170000 miles. Car dies while driving but will restart within
minutes. Had the fuel pressure checked ( it was low, around 63 psi ) so I replaced the fuel pump and strainer. Car still dies while driving. This has not happened at speeds below 25 mph. There are no idiot lights lit until of course it dies. Plenty of power otherwise. Any ideas?

Is it just that the engine dies or do you lose all electrical power?

Just the engine dies. I have noticed that it will die at all speeds and occasionally backfire while restarting the engine. I still have electrical power, lights radio etc. and if I turn the key off then to on/run for a few seconds before trying to restart it seems to restart quicker. Also, there seems to be no set number of times it will die. Yesterday it died six or seven times going to work and then not at all coming home, a distance of approximately 45 miles. Wierd huh?

If just your engine dies then it must be a problem with the distributor or coil.
