1997 Mazda 626 LX w/smoking tail pipe! Please help!

Typically white smoke is an indication of coolant burning. Check your coolant level.

They may have performed an air induction service that can have a short term white smoke effect especially if they use seafoam carbon remover.

Keep an eye on the gauges and the fluid levels. give it a week and see if anything changes.

The scent does it smell like rotten eggs/sulfur/sweet to it-also can you describe the color of the smoke-

What the mechanic is telling you is condensation, once the engine comes up to it normal operating temperature it should fade away if it continues to come out then we have a different problem.

If you wish further assistance comeback and be more descriptive to the problem what you got is not enough, I need more data-
