How and where can I find the engine number?

Thanks, I found the code in the location you indicated (KL), but still no number.
I have never had more trouble with something that should be so simple, unfortunately I need to find the number before I can book it in to be registered.

What i feel has happened here, is that at some time this car has been re engined through a dealership, often when this happens the dealer get a factory new engine that has never been serialized, this is the responsibility of the dealer to stamp the new engine No on, and this is often forgotten, ( i have come across this before, here in Australia) here if this happens we have to contact the rego authority and request a new engine No. may be its the same there, as the location of the engine No is constant, if its blank its never had a No.

That maybe the case, but the "KL" I found was in like a self contained circle and I could not see an area for a number (it is so confined in there you can't see much at all).

There should be a machined flat surface, if it is stamped it will be there,try cleaning with pressure pack of brake clean, you may have to use a mirror and torch, or even get it up in the air and take off the lower splash tray to get better access to see it.

Just thought I would follow up. I couldn't find the number and gave up (and I don't give up easily). I had it booked in for an inspection at the RTA today and expected them to order me to get one stamped (or something), never the less, they found it. Using a thin flexible torch and contorting their heads into un-natural positions, it was found in the area you suggested. It wasn't the engine that was supposed to be there (which created another issue), but it was found.
